Police investigate assaults
Police are investigating two assaults and the theft of a car which occurred over the new year's weekend.
Police said that around 12.40 a.m. on New Year's Eve a Warwick man was assaulted at the corner of Dundonald Street and Washington Street in Pembroke.
The 25-year-old said he was at a New Year's function at the Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society with friends. Around midnight he opened a bottle of champagne, which sprayed over several people standing nearby.
As a result, one of the men punched the Warwick man in the mouth, causing lacerations. He was taken to hospital, treated and released.
The suspect is described as a while male, approximately five feet nine inches tall, average to stocky build with a shaved head. He was wearing a white polo shirt with a blue stripe and blue jeans. He is believed to be in his early 20s.
At about 7 a.m. on Saturday Police received a report of an assault on Cedar Avenue in Pembroke.
The victim, a 47-year-old St. George's man, stated that around 6.15 a.m. he was walking along Cedar Avenue when a man walked up behind him and hit him in the head several times with an unknown object, causing the victim to fall on the ground. The suspect then removed $150 in cash from the victim's pockets and made good his escape on foot.
The victim was unable to give a description of the suspect. He was taken to KEMH, treated for his injuries and released.
Around 3.10 a.m. on Saturday Police attended a reported breaking and entering at a Wellington Slip Road, St. George's residence. Police are told that sometime between 11 p.m. on Friday and 3 a.m. on Saturday, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home and stole about $200 in cash.
Meanwhile police are investigating a car theft after the owner of a white 2001 Toyota Corolla, licence 28751 reported her car missing from her home on North Shore, Hamilton Parish.
Police stated the car was removed sometime between 8 p.m. on Saturday and 8.30 a.m. yesterday morning.
