Improving tourism
September 10, 2012After listening to the new tourism plan on the 22nd of August, 2012 via ZBM, there are a few questions I would like to raise.1. Are we going to raise the question with the airlines about reducing the price of travel to Bermuda?2. Our hotel rates are extremely high compared with other destinations like the Caribbean Islands.3. We should abolish the “gratuity” system that is presently in place at most of our restaurants; “for your convenience we have added 17% to your bill”Gratuities are owned, not expected. It is illegal by law.4. Let us work on our infrastructure first, there’s a lot to be desired here in Bermuda. Why have all these thousands of visitors coming to Bermuda if we don’t have enough beds in the hotels?5. Introduce the Blue Flag on the taxis again, it’s out taxi drivers who are the Ambassadors of Bermuda.6. We have to change our attitudes if we want tourists to come here, some of us treat them very shabbily.PETER BROMBY SRPaget
