Cool heads must prevail

March 24, 2013Dear Sir,There has been much discussion of foreign investment in the form of hotel development in Bermuda. At this time much needed foreign income coming to Bermuda’s shores would be most welcome. The Bermuda economy has been contracting for the last four to five years. As a result many of us are unemployed and the prospect of our economy growing again is at the best hopeful. The Government speaks of “green shoots” which have the potential to grow. The recent announcement that the former Sonesta Beach has been bought is good news. Perhaps a new hotel is imminent which would be a shot in the arm for the construction industry. We must create an environment to encourage such potential so that it becomes realisation. Strikes for frivolous reasons do not help. Our leaders must come together, work together for the common good. Management must not be seen to be taking advantage of workers, likewise workers representatives must not be as demanding as in the past. Our fragile economy will only recover with both sides being sympathetic to each others needs. With cool heads, Bermuda’s future does look bright.Let’s hope our leaders have the wherewithal to make it happen.CHANGER– Sandys
