PureNERGY boss's 'house of the future' shows how it can be done
PureNERGY Renewables Ltd. specialises in providing customised small, medium, and large-scale renewable energy systems for Bermuda's residential and commercial market.
The company, which was incorporated in May 2008, is committed to ensuring that home and business owners can access a clean, reliable power supply, even during outages, while helping customers to reduce electricity costs, facilitating pre-arranged financing, and increasing their property values, as well as working towards a 'greener' Island.
To meet the individual needs of homes and businesses, PureNERGY provides a number of clean-technology products and services combining the use of solar electric (photovoltaic), solar water heating (thermal), and micro-wind turbine technologies, both on-grid and off-grid for sustainable power supply. It also offers state-of-the-art remote monitoring systems accessible from anywhere in the world.
"We have added to our arsenal of energy-saving strategies by incorporating energy efficiency and energy management services that educate and engage all customers to save money by changing their energy consumption patterns immediately and out into the future," said Kevon Makell, vice-president and general manager of PureNERGY Renewables.
The company provides home energy audits starting from $300 and system packages from about $3,000, with pre-arranged financing set up with local banks to make the process both simple and affordable.
Mr. Makell, a veteran of more than 30 years in the energy sector, said that PureNERGY was a market leader in the deployment of renewable-energy solutions in Bermuda, ranging from the design of some of the largest installations on the Island to date to the completion of small residential projects.
"Whether it is assessing the energy vampires robbing power from a customer's home or a large commercial enterprise in need of a sustainable option in the event of a power outage, PureNERGY has realistic solutions," he said.
He said that his company has the knowledge, experience and the products to fit the Bermuda market, having designed and installed the biggest commercial water heating system and one of the largest residential PV systems on the Island.
PureNERGY can also boast the only glass-on-glass PV system installed in Bermuda, which was featured globally as part of an international canopy manufacturer's marketing campaign.
In fact its commercial PV solutions provides owners the opportunity to sell their excess capacity back to the energy company under applicable tariff structures.
"The future is bright for alternative energy as part of an integrated energy equation, if we can ensure that effective policy, legislative, and regulatory frameworks can be put in place to encourage the controlled growth of this market without alienating the incumbent utility," said Mr. Makell.
"Further, we need to be realistic about the cost and performance capabilities of these technologies to ensure that an accurate picture emerges about their suitability to form part of Bermuda's energy future."
Mr. Makell, who lives in a 'house of the future' in Warwick which incorporates all three of PureNERGY's technologies and can be monitored via the Internet anywhere in the world, said that security, reliability and affordability of sustainable power supply were the keys to success in tomorrow's economy, provided the sector worked together to find creative ways to pay for these changes in energy policy, adding that energy efficiency, clean technology project solutions, smart sustainable cottages and affordable renewable energy products were the future of alternative energy in Bermuda.
He said that while rebates had done little to date to stimulate the development of the Island's renewable energy market, they had facilitated the incorporation of several businesses within the sector, but in turn provided little incentive for the average residential or commercial customer to go 'green'.
