Three of Bermuda's legislators will be joining hundreds of delegates at next month's meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in Australia.

"The conference. . . will challenge members to reassess the profession of politics (and) to find better ways to conduct public business," according to a CPA press statement.

The Opposition United Bermuda Party's Patricia Gordon-Pamplin, Government senator Calvin Smith and Cabinet Minister Terry Lister will form Bermuda's delegation at the conference, which runs from September 3 to 14.

"Discussions at the plenary conference will focus specifically on strengthening Parliament's oversight role; alleviating poverty; making Parliament more gender sensitive; assisting Parliamentarians to take advantage of information and communications technology and to raise public knowledge about the role of the politician; combatting international trafficking of people, and regulating scientific advances," continued the press statement.

The Bermuda delegation will be attending the plenary conference as well as a conference for members from small countries.
