British Airways is hoping to resume travel between Bermuda and the UK tomorrow.

Ash from the eruption of Iceland’s s Eyjafjallajökull volcano last week has caused flights to be cancelled for the past six days.

Airports across Europe were closed; approximately 300 visitors were stuck in Bermuda and 500 residents impacted.

The volcanic eruption is said to have caused the greatest disruption to air travel since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“We are very pleased that the aviation authorities have opened UK airspace to enable us to begin in earnest the task of flying our customers,” said British Airways spokeswoman Sallie Singleton.

“Therefore we are optimistic that flights inbound and outbound to Bermuda on Wednesday, April 21 will be operating unless a change occurs during Tuesday evening.”
