Colts and Hood set for replay

Devonshire Colts 1 Robin Hood 1Devonshire Colts and Robin Hood will have to do battle all over again after yesterday’s FA Cup quarterfinal tie at Police Field ended in stalemate.Premier side Hood jumped out to an early lead when David Outerbridge converted against the run of play. But their First Division rivals hit back just before the break through a strike from midfielder Terry Foote. Both teams created ample chances to settle this cup tie but could not find their scoring touch when it mattered most.At times the defending of both sides also left much to be desired and more often than not they were spared the blushes through wasteful finishing or wayward passing in the attacking third of the pitch.Hood took only nine minutes to unlock Colts’ defence during a classic counterattack, Outerbridge slotting the ball under the advancing Greg Rose after latching onto Drewonde Bascome’s ambitious pass from midfield that left the home side completely exposed. The visitors then spurned two glorious chances that would ultimately come back to haunt them.First Outerbridge fired wide after some good approach work down the left flank and then Joshua Crockwell headed Bascome’s free-kick over the bar while a lethargic Colts defence stood frozen.Even though they fell behind in early arrears Colts enjoyed swathes of possession which eventually took its toll on Hood towards the latter stages of the opening stanza.Carlos Trott gave warning of the impending danger when his effort from distance sailed just over the bar.Colts’ skipper Lozendro Symonds then found the side netting after his initial pass in the box to Ellington Weldon the oldest player on the pitch was blocked. After surviving a few close calls the Hood defence finally caved in when Foot turned in Weldon’s clever flick on in the box to add parity to the scoreline. Both teams defended better in the second-half which reduced clear cut opportunities at both ends of the pitch to a trickle.Hood, though, had two chances to regain the lead after the break after their hosts momentarily switched off.But fortunately for Colts the unmarked Dwia Blyden headed over the bar before Rose raced off his line to courageously save at the feet of Bascome as he shaped up to unleash.Colts’ best chance of the half fell to Darren Williams who side footed over after being nicely set up by the evergreen Weldon.Devonshire Colts: G Rose, V Lambe, J Butterfield (C Maybury), E Weldon (Z Darrell), D Williams, N Bascome, T Foote, L Symonds, K Gardner, C Trott, K Cann (O Ray)Goals: T Foot, 36Robin Hood: T Figureido, A Dante (R Paul), D Bascome, D Outerbridge, B Robinson (M Thomas), K Robinson, D Blyden (C Watson), L Tota, M Watson, A Wolffe, J CrockwellGoals: D Outerbridge, 9Yellow card: A WolffeMan of the match: D Bascome (Robin Hood)Referee: A Francis
