Darrell preferss Brown to payneter from Lawrence Trott

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- Bermuda coach Gary Darrell will delay naming his starting team for tomorrow's World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Cuscatlan until after this morning's light training session because of minor knocks to key players.

But even so Darrell, under pressure to restore Shawn Goater to the striker's role, said he does not expect to make more than a couple of changes.

One change for sure sees Kyle Lightbourne returning from a one-match suspension to replace Sammy Swan in attack and the only other probable change could be Neil Paynter returning to defence.

Darrell, though admitted he was inclined to stay with former captain Dennis Brown at the heart of the defence, thus delaying Paynter's return from a hamstring pull until next weekend's match against Jamaica in Kingston at the earliest.

Darrell used a session at the 45,000 capacity stadium last evening to assess the fitness of Paynter and Paul Cann and Goater who are both recovering from minor knocks.

"Neil says this is the best he has felt, while Rip took a knock on the shin and Shawn a knock on the foot in the last match and was getting treatment on Monday and Tuesday, '' explained Darrell.

"If everybody is fit then it is a case of deciding which way we want to go.

Although things didn't look real safe in defence in the last match Neil didn't have one of his better games the week before so at this point I am leaning toward staying with Dennis even if Neil is fit.'' Darrell expects the Salvadoreans to be pumped up by a crowd that should be as supportive as the one found in Haiti in the preliminary round second leg.

Certainly they should be just as noisy and if their team are to make a strong bid to qualify for the next round then they will have to start winning soon.

After last weekend's home draw with Canada there is talk here that more changes are on the way to the local team.

"We will have to revert to what we did in the first game against them and will have to be far more aggressive,'' said Darrell whose target on this road trip is three points from the three matches.

"We have to want to take some things from them that they don't want us to have, like Jamaica did with us last week.

"It's tough to gauge how they will react but they must feel as though their backs are against the wall. They are bottom of the group having given up a point last week so they may be a little desperate. If we don't allow things to go for them then the pressure will be on them.'' The Bermuda team had to a warm reception -- literally -- when they arrived in the country basking in warm weather, the temperature being 89 degrees.

They arrived at midday and BFA director and advance delegate Gerard Bean was among the officials to greet them.

As well as the heat, the length of the grass at the stadium and even the fact that the three match officials are from nearby Honduras could serve to work in El Salvador's favour. But Darrell is determined to get a good result.

"The grass is a bit longer than we are used to and it could definitely have a bearing. The ball was moving quicker on our field but down here it might suite them,'' said Darrell.

The probable starting line-up is as follows: Dwayne Adams; Meshach Wade, Leroy Stevens, Dennis Brown, Kentoine Jennings, Voorhees Astwood; Shawn Smith, Shawn Goater, Paul Cann; Elliott Jennings, Kyle Lightbourne.

DENNIS BROWN -- Will get chance to improve on last Sunday's performance against Jamaica.
