A motorcycle rider was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after a collision with a car in Southampton on Thursday night.

Police attended the incident on South Road, near the junction with Pie Crust Place, around 10.40 p.m.

A spokesman said: "It appears that the car was travelling west on South Road and the motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old Sandy's parish man, was apparently not injured. However, his passenger sustained minor abrasions to their arms and legs. The driver of the car, a 51 year old Warwick man, was not injured."

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and the rider of the motorcycle was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
