Boulevard?s season has suffered yet another setback.

Currently on a five-game winless streak dating back to last December, Blazers have now lost the services of coach John Rebello who has decided to call it quits after a three-year stint at the helm of the Premier Division club.

Citing personal reasons for his decision to sever ties with the team he coached out of the First Division in 2001-02, Rebello said the time was right to ?take a break from the stresses of local football?.

Former Boulevard striker Vernon Symonds has now taken over at the helm of the team.

?I really stood down last December but I decided to keep my presence around for a bit,? said Rebello, who previously coached Vasco da Gama to the coveted triple crown championship (Premier Division, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy) in 1997-98 before the team disbanded.

?I don?t want to make a big stink about it . . . I have just gone my separate way and Boulevard are trying to sort themselves out. I?m just trying to quietly go on with life and that?s about it.

?We all need a break and I think that break was coming and I just felt that I have done my part and it?s time to give the reins to someone else. I feel it?s time to give someone else a chance at the helm and see if they can do a better job.?

Symonds is being assisted by Amon Brown while inspirational sweeper Meshach Wade has also offered his services while on the bench.

Wade injured himself in a Martonmere Cup clash last October and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

It is understood the former Hereford United professional recently underwent surgery on his left knee.

?There are some great people down there at Boulevard?, Rebello added. ?The players are great and so I don?t have any complaints. But I think it?s time to walk away from the stresses of coaching and perhaps take in a bit of NFL.

?Basically I decided to resign back in December and at this point I haven?t considered returning to the sport in the future.

?It?s pretty hard for me to come back because this is the second time leaving the sport. So this could pretty much be it.?

In 1998 Rebello received the Queen?s Badge of Honour after guiding Portuguese club Vasco to the triple crown championship.

Rebello also coached Blazers to the First Division double (Shield and League championship) in 2002.

Since rejoining the Premier Division ranks in 2002-03, Boulevard have had two top three finishes and have appeared in the Friendship Trophy semi-finals for the past two seasons.

They suffered an upset over the weekend when they were beaten by Somerset Eagles 1-0 ? a club they thrashed 7-0 in the first round of the FA Cup.

Boulevard enjoyed numerous successes in the 1990s, clinching four FA Cups, a Dudley Eve Trophy title, two Premier Division championships and three Martonmere Cup crowns.

?I think getting the team back into the Premier Division and reorganising the senior programme was a great achievement for me at the club,? continued Rebello.

?I think I did a great job at that in addition to keeping the team up in the Premier Division. I think every year we managed to remain in the thick of things and every team we played were always on the lookout for us.

?No team ever looked at us as pushovers and Boulevard have a great squad out there.?

Boulevard?s origins date back to the 1960s when they were known as the Cobras - a non-league team comprised mostly of players from the Friswell?s Hill and Parsons Road areas.
