LONDON (Bloomberg) ? Goshawk Insurance Holdings Plc, a UK reinsurer, forecast a "marginal" pre-tax loss in the first half because of insurance claims from Hurricane Ivan.
The London-based company's shares fell four percent after Goshawk said losses from last September's hurricane that hit Grenada and damaged Jamaica and the Cayman Islands before striking the US exceeded the amount that had been set aside in reserve for claims.
"Assuming catastrophe activity in the second half of 2005 is within normal provisions, Goshawk expects to achieve an acceptable, if reduced, outcome for the full year," the company, whose main operating subsidiary is Bermuda-based Rosemont Re, said on Friday in a Regulatory News Service statement.
