Burgess reports progress in Cablevision dispute
morning. The news is likely to be announced today in a joint statement from management and the Bermuda Industrial Union.
Last night union officials were tight-lipped about a potential resolution but BIU president Derrick Burgess said there had been "promising'' results from meetings yesterday.
"All I'll say is progress has been made and there will be a joint statement tomorrow,'' Mr. Burgess said. "It did come after meetings today, yes.'' He added: "Our shop steward there had been handling it and handling it well.
An excellent job, but we (union executives) have had instrumental involvement today.'' Field workers walked out on Monday morning and Tuesday's talks cleared up problems over uniforms, vehicles, and safety, before hitting a deadlock over pay for installers.
After a reported threat on workers' jobs, office staff joined the picket lines on Wednesday. Management did not follow through on the threat.
