Bermudian Mr. Mussenden will start working for Hector, Wakefield, Dwyer and Pettingill on October 1 after working at the DPP for four years.

He will largely be involved in litigation work, but will still take care of some criminal cases, although from now on defending, rather than prosecuting.

The Royal Gazette reported a month ago how Mr. Mussenden's departure would leave DPP Khamisi Tokunbo without yet another prosecutor.

A number of experienced barristers have left the DPP since February this year, causing some concern over the apparent lack of exerience among the prosecuting team.

Mr. Tokunbo has been on an overseas recruitment drive in an attempt to fill the vacant posts and is believed to have offered jobs to two attorneys from the Caribbean.

However, last night, Mr. Tokunbo did not return calls made by The Royal Gazette.

Mr. Mussenden said he has enjoyed his time with the DPP, but was made an offer that he could not refuse.

He said: "I am very pleased to have the opportunity and extremely excited and honoured to join the firm.
