The unveiling of the new mega-development plans for the Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC) are being shrouded in secrecy until the early part of the New Year, said its president.

And Chris Furbert assured that despite the recent concern expressed by area neighbours that the new construction will cut off access to their homes, the new changes are intended to benefit the area.

It is understood the PHC stadium is to undergo a major refurbishment, which includes knocking down its existing club house and moving it further back onto the property.

And it was revealed this summer that negotiations were in the works to build a gas station on the roadside area of the property.

But the PHC president told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "We are continuing the overall development, that's all. But everyone will be happy with what we are planning. We met with the landowners (recently) and gave them chance to know what we are doing, but everyone's going to be happy."

However, Stadium Lane area residents were troubled that plans to have the access road relocated nearer to the Spice Valley School field, would mean they would have difficulty getting to their homes.

Mr. Furbert said he would not comment on those plans, instead saying that he was working diligently with the neighbours to ensure that a clean solution could be resolved.

"For 20 years, the neighbours have had access through the road," he said, "and they feel that they have a legal right to parts of the area. But we are continuing to work together."

Meanwhile concern surrounding the development of a gas station was met with a similar no comment, instead he quipped: "I don't know anything about that", before reiterating that all will be revealed in the New Year.
