Father commits indecent act

A Paget husband who was caught masturbating on a Warwick Beach caused a stir when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Father of two, Jos? Borges, pleaded guilty to an indecent act on Warwick Long Bay.

Over a rumble of giggles in the court, Borges said: "Guilty sir."

Mr. Greaves said: "Choking the dog."

Crown counsel Charmaine Smith told the court that Borges was spotted by a female tourist who was sunbathing. When he had waved at her she said she thought, `Oh, another friendly Bermudian'.

At that time Borges was about 50 yards away from her.

The visitor continued to sunbathe until he waved again, this time with his left hand, while his right attended to other business in his groin region.

She then got out her camera and took some photos of the man, but he ran off and she was unable to get a good enough shot.

The visitor decided to leave the beach, and as she left she saw Borges get on a motorcycle and was able to record the number for Police.

Borges was later picked up by the Police and taken to Somerset Police station, where he said: "The devil got into me."

This statement sent to courtroom into peals of giggles.

Mr. Greaves said: "The devil made me do it."

An embarrassed Borges said: "I apologise your Honour and I swear that it will never happen again."

Lawyer Larry Mussenden said it was a case for a conditional discharge, but Mr. Greaves said: "He already had a discharge."

Mr. Greaves ordered a social inquiry report on Borges, who will return to court on July 1, and said: "You might have a screw lose and I don't want to give you a greater penalty than should be imposed."

Borges was released on $1,000 bail.
