Police have arrested a man who attacked a Modern Mart worker with a hammer.

The victim, a 19-year old Pembroke man, was in the South Road in Paget store on Tuesday when a 22-year-old Paget man who is known to the victim approached him and struck him with a hammer several times on the back and head. The assailant then ran out of the store and got on a motorcycle and rode east.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. The suspect was found and arrested by Police yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident, particularly anyone who may have been in the store at the time, to contact P.c. Jason Ming at the Hamilton CID on 299 4556.
