Man in critical condition after bike accident

A 27-year-old Devonshire man was last night in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after a serious road accident.

While riding a motorcycle around 2.30 a.m. yesterday, travelling east on Middle Road in Southampton, near the junction of Camp Hill Road, the man collided with a car heading the other way and then a wall.

The rider's pillion passenger, a 21-year-old Devonshire man, suffered less serious injuries and was treated and released from hospital, while the driver of the car, a 34-year-old Southampton man, escaped injuries.

As a result of the crash, both vehicles were extensively damaged. It's understood the 27-year-old sustained serious injuries to his head.

Following the accident Police had to divert traffic away from the scene. Inquiries are ongoing and Police are asking for any witnesses to contact Pc Vivian Philgence at 234-1010.
