Bermuda National Gallery certified by National Standards committee

The Bermuda National Gallery (BNG) has received a special gift for its 19th anniversary certification by the Bermuda National Standards Committee (BNSC).The gallery was certified having met all required areas of scrutiny: governance, including appropriate bye-laws, regulations and policies; financial and human resource management; strategic and performance improvement planning.Former trustee Michael Spurling was instrumental in the certification process, lending the BNG over 100 hours of his time.“The BNSC certification came into effect January 1, however, it is an ongoing process,” said executive director Lisa Howie. “Further documents will be submitted later this year, and in subsequent years, to ensure that the BNG continues to function at this high level of ethical practice.”BNG chairman, Gary Phillips said he was grateful for the commitment from BNG trustees led by Mr Spurling.“And I am equally grateful to the Hon Glenn Blakeney, Minister of Youth, Families, Sports and Community Development with responsibility for the arts, for his endorsement,” said Mr Phillips.Added Mrs Howie: “The BNSC certificatpion is a standard to which the BNG will continue to strive. Although it involves work to maintain, this work is the behind-the-scene structure on which the BNG will continue to grow and evolve. Keeping in the spirit of evolution will be central to the success of the gallery as we face ongoing market challenges.”The Bermuda National Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Admission is free.Useful website: www.bermudanationalgallery.com.
