Victory ends cup drought

St. George's Dinghy and Sports Club ended a 14-year winless drought when Victory IV captured fitted dinghy racing's prestigious Coronation Cup on Sunday.

Needing to defeat Port Royal II in both races to assure the top spot, skipper David Hillier and crew did just that, thwarting every challenge put forth by the yellow boat in Granaway Deep.

After placing third in the first race for the Victory Cup, one place ahead of Port Royal - Contest II won - the east enders showed their mettle, closing matters in style, crossing the line first in the second outing, for the Leon D. Fox Trophy.

Victory thus topped the standings with 58 points, 13/4 more than Port Royal, with Contest third (46), Elizabeth II fourth (45) and Challenger II fifth (20).

The Bermuda Fitted Dinghy Association will be holding its annual general meeting on October 23, starting at 6.00 p.m.
