Police officers, fire personnel and a hospital pathologist conducted an extensive search of the Peat Lane, Pembroke site for the remains of one adult and a six month old baby.

The search began early yesterday morning, but was concluded before noon when Police and fire officers uncovered nothing.

It remains unclear what were the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Police and fire personnel are still trying to uncover the identities of people who may have been in the abandoned house or at the scene when the fire started.

Bermuda Fire Services divisional officer John Pacheco said: "We are finished with the building site but the investigation is still ongoing and we are still trying to identify the people in the building prior to the fire.

"Once we have, we will try to get interviews with them regarding the cause of the fire.

"Interviewing the people will be one of the steps in trying to determine the cause of the fire.'' The Royal Gazette has learned that the building is owned by Curtis Simmons, but he was not available for comment.
