Cougars claw back the points
Three unanswered strikes enabled Devonshire Cougars to come back and defeat Wolves 3-1 in a Second Division encounter at Devonshire Rec., last night.
Wolves striker Marlon Lindsay gave the visitors with a tally after only four minutes, but goals by Dwayne (Liquid) Bean, Dale Russell and Devon Brangman settled the issue in Cougars' favour.
Bean grabbed the equaliser in the 32nd minute when he went on a solo run on the right, beating Wolves' defender Kurt (Dasher) Douglas before planting a left foot shot past Andre Smith in goal for Wolves.
It was obvious that Cougars had more desire when the sides returned following the break and Carlos Smith immediately took up the issue as he blasted over the top from 12 yards in the 48th minute after being supplied a ball by Delmar Trott.
Nine minutes later Cougars seized the lead when Dale Russell eluded Wolves' offside trap to get on the end of a perfect through-ball by James Raynor.
Russell proceeded to round the 'keeper and casually slot the ball into the vacated goal.
But it was Wolves, specifically Dion Wainwright, who almost pulled back a goal. The lean striker twice had efforts blocked by goalkeeper Fred Richardson from close range 60 minutes into the match.
Meanwhile, at the other end Cougars continued to pressure the Wolves defence and Preston Mallory just missed scoring a beauty when his curling shot from 30 yards went into the side netting with Andre Smith beaten.
The issue was put beyond doubt by Brangman 23 minutes from time as the lively winger popped up in front of goal to tap in a cross by Bean.
