Mystery surrounds the outcome of last night's emergency board meeting to discuss the future of trouble-hit drug counselling service Focus.

The charity has to decide whether to accept the National Drug Commission's offer to run the Camp Spirit island retreat programme, which failed to start last week.

The NDC has withheld $60,000 in funding pending organisational changes and the removal of Sandy Butterfield from her role as executive director.

Last night's meeting took nearly three hours but board member Alan Bean refused to say what had happened.

He said: "I can't answer until we make an official report. We can't say anything at this point. I would love to talk to you."

However he was unable to say when the board would go public or why he couldn't comment.

Mrs. Butterfield also refused to comment while board chairman Rory Gorman is off the Island.
