Ministry wins judgment against DeFontes
Company Ltd.
The award is believed to be part of a legal battle to recover more than $100,000 in Government contributions from the firm which owns broadcasting station VSB. Finance Minister Grant Gibbons last year began three separate court actions against DeFontes to collect a total of $141,000 for unpaid hospital levy, social insurance and employment tax.
Three writs were filed in the Supreme Court last December against DeFontes (Television) Ltd. for more than $49,653, DeFontes Broadcasting Ltd. for $38,850, and against owner Kenneth DeFontes for $52,863.
When contacted yesterday Mr. DeFontes said he did not know about the judgment which was filed on Tuesday.
But he said it was "possible'' that it related to taxes owed. "We're paying on them,'' he added. "We're doing the best we can.'' GOVERNMENT GVT TAXES TAX
