New-look Vasco set the standard

Vasco's costly newcomer Karl Roberts was among the goal-scorers in this one-sided victory in their Second Division season-opener at Devonshire Rec.

yesterday.

Roberts, who the Portuguese club was forced to pay $2,500 to transfer from Somerset Trojans this summer, made a promising debut by scoring their fifth goal and setting up their second.

Three other players just joining Vasco this summer also scored. They were Larance Durham, Paul Towlson and Colin Lloyd.

Durham struck their first after 29 minutes, then Joe Cunha made it 2-0 after 68 minutes. Towlson, Roberts and Lloyd followed with tallies shortly afterwards.

Dev. Cougars 2, Port Royal 0 Devonshire Cougars had to fight hard for both points against a spirited Port Royal team at Devonshire in the second game.

After a first half that ended scoreless Cougars, who were relegated from the First Division last season, finally went ahead through veteran Dale Russell and they added a second later from Devon Brangman.

BAA 2, Somerset Eagles 1 Somerset Eagles snatched a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jerome Richardson early in the second half but were unable to hold on in this clash at Southampton Oval.

The Green Knights fought back gallantly and won it on two late goals by veteran Dennis Davis and Mark Thorne.

Social Club 3, Prospect 3 Andrew Rollins, Don DeSilva and Kenneth Bartrum netted for Prospect at PHC Stadium while Social Club's goals came from Dean Young, Rambert Hill and Randy Spence.

Southampton 1, Wolves 1 Home team Rangers led 1-0 on an Ascento Russell goal only to see Wolves hit back to grab a share of the points with an equaliser through Keith DeShields.
