Leon Fough receiving a suspended 12-month jail term yesterday.

Fough, 22, of Coral Hill Lane, Warwick, had been charged with unlawfully wounding Ashley Wellman and unlawfully wounding him with intent to do grievous bodily harm on June 21.

Supreme Court heard that Mr. Wellman was visiting his girlfriend in Riviera Estates, Southampton when Fough arrived.

On seeing Wellman there, Fough demanded that the young lady return jewellry he had bought her when they were going out. He then tried to remove the sneakers she was wearing.

At this point, Mr. Wellman intervened and asked Fough to leave, which he did.

Later on that evening, Mr. Wellman and the young lady were walking along the Railway Trail when Fough emerged from behind some bushes with a mallet.

He struck Mr. Wellman above his right eyebrow with the mallet. In the ensuing scuffle Mr. Wellman got the mallet away from Fough who left the scene.

Mr. Wellman ended up at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he received several stitches to close the wound.

Chief Justice Austin Ward sentenced Fough to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. Crown Counsel Charlene Scott appeared for the prosecution while Fough was represented by lawyer Mark Pettingill.

MAN DENIES DRUG CHARGE CTS Man denies drug charge A 28-year-old Devonshire man was yesterday charged in Magistrates' Court with cultivating cannabis and possessing the drug with intent to supply.

Anthony L. Davis, of School Drive, pleaded not guilty to a total of five counts which were alleged to have occurred in Devonshire on March 30.

They included possession of cannabis with intent to supply, cultivating cannabis, possession of equipment fit and intended for the misuse of a controlled drug -- namely a scale, violently resisting a Police officer who was trying to arrest him and intentionally obstructing a Police officer in the execution of his duty.

Davis was represented by lawyer Michael Scott and was released on $500 bail by Senior Magistrate William Francis after being ordered to return to court on May 28.
