The three volunteers will spend two weeks at the Petencito Zoo in the Central American country.

Englishman Mr. Jonathan Burkin, American Mr. Bob Bradford and Bermudian Miss Jennifer Murdoch are making the trip as part of the Zoo Conservation Outreach Group.

The group helps zoos which are struggling to survive in less developed countries.

"The zoo was set up 30 years ago in a country that is in a constant state of civil war,'' said Mr. Burkin. "Funding has been cut over the years.

"It is on an island and it is not in bad condition. It contains animals like parrots, jaguars, ocelots, wild boars, spider monkeys and tapirs.'' Mr. Burkin said good work was taking place at the zoo but there were few records. That was an area which he hoped to improve.

His American colleague Mr. Bradford will help construct an exhibit which will give local staff an idea of how to carry out future work.
