And heavy trucks and tall vehicles will be banned from the stretch of road until next week, said Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt.

Construction work on the old Lines Brothers building has required a massive crane to be parked in the middle of Reid Street.

It is being used to lift steel girders from the roadside to the back of the building and it is blocking more than three quarters of the street.

Until it completes this work, said Mr. Sherratt, all large vehicles will be banned from this stretch of road.

And the Corporation would prefer other motorists to divert from taking this route also.

Beverly Griffin said the rust-coloured dog went missing from an apartment on Cox's Hill at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

She said: "He's not a dangerous dog by any means but he does sometimes jump up at people.

"Having said that, he may well be hungry now and we're not certain how he would react.''
