`New spirit' at Grotto Bay

Grotto Bay employees successfully completed a training course designed to improve their job performance.

Labour and Home Affairs Minister the Hon. John Irving Pearman who attended a luncheon in honour of the employees, said he was pleased with what was achieved in a short time.

"I'm very happy about what they have accomplished,'' he said. "The luncheon was really exceptional and there is no question that Grotto Bay has grasped a vision about what they can be from the top down.

"This new spirit has permeated that entire organisation and I'd like to see this in all our accommodations as well as Bermuda in general.'' Mr. Ottiwell Simmons, president of the Bermuda Industrial Union, said his impression was that hotel's workers had a "new spirit.'' "I am satisfied that they have a new inspiration to work together in the interest of the hotel and to serve the tourists,'' he said.

On February 6 this year, 130 employees embarked on the programme that involved staff orientation and guest relations.
