The Bermuda Stock Exchange continued its rise for the second week in a row with the index gaining 17.624 to close the week at 943.17.

Eleven issues traded during the week, with six stocks gaining, two declining and three closing the week unchanged.

Bermuda Container Line Ltd. had the biggest gain and Devonshire Industries Ltd. had the biggest loss. BCL stock rose $1 to finish the week at $3 on volume of 5,000 shares. Devonshire Industries, the maker of Bermuda Paint, fell $2 to close at $9 on volume of 3,000.

Bermuda Telephone Co. rose $2 to close at $27 on a volume of 12,624. The Bank of Bermuda fell 13 cents to close at $17.50. The bank`s warrants gained 25 cents to close at $1. The Bank of Butterfield gained 63 cents to close at $9.88. Bermuda Home 8% preferred shares rose 25 cents to close at $10.25 while Argus Insurance Co. rose 50 cents to close at $12.50.

A total of 63,983 shares worth $837,994.88 changed hands during the week.
