Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said officers were patrolling Dundonald Street around 1.20 a.m. on Sunday when they saw the man riding a cycle without a licence plate.

Suspecting the cycle was stolen, Police attempted to stop the vehicle. But the rider dropped the cycle on Angle Street and ran.

He was pursued on foot and eventually detained on Dundonald Street. Police inquiries revealed that the cycle was not stolen.

But the rider will face a number of charges as a result of his driving manner and not having a licence, said P.c. Venning.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Warwick man who led them on a high-speed chase.

They were conducting routine vehicle checks on The Lane in Paget when they saw the man riding a Yamaha cycle.

Suspecting the cycle was stolen, Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the officers tried to stop the man. But he rode off at a high speed. After a lengthy chase the man was eventually stopped at Devon Spring Road in Devonshire.

Police inquiries were continuing and the man was expected to appear in Magistrates' Court in the near future.
