clean up the former US baselands when Bermuda's Foreign Office Minister visits Washington DC later this month.

British officials have been in Bermuda this week for further talks with Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson and Development and Opportunity Minister Terry Lister.

Now Baroness Scotland, the Foreign Office Minister for Overseas Territories, will take the results of the talks with her when she holds talks with the US Government in August.

Deputy Governor Tim Gurney said: "The bases working group, comprising British and Bermudian officials and Ministers, met this week and had useful discussions on the bases' issue which is being pursued by the Foreign Office in London and the British Embassy in Washington.

"These focused on the need to pursue with the US authorities a number of practical, cooperative measures which would help resolve the issue and pave the way for the development of the sites.'' An environmental study recently found that sewage and oil stored in a cave and underground storage tanks at the former Naval Annex have leaked jet fuel.
