Ships bring four injured seamen

The Maasdam , is 219 metres long with a draft of 7.715 metres. She docked at number one shed at 8.00 a.m. She was last in Bermuda in April for her inaugural cruise.

The Maasdam will back in Bermuda again early next year.

In other shipping news, a Croatian and a German vessel both had to stop in Bermuda to off-load sick crew.

The Koper Express arrived last Thursday and docked at Five Fathom hole where three injured seamen were taken off, a spokesman for John S. Darrell said.

One of the crew members has since been judged fit enough to be released from hospital although the two others have been detained.

Meanwhile, the Jana , a German vessel that left Antwerp, Belgium, on its way to Fort Lauderdale, also stopped off to land a crew member who crushed a finger on his left hand in an accident while on board.

Meyer Agencies reported a light week with two container ships calling upon Bermuda.

The Somers Isles arrived from Florida on Sunday morning with 101 containers 11 of which were refrigerated.

A sail boat, a Boston whaler, 24 bundles of steel, and six bundles of lumber were among the bulk items on board. She left Sunday afternoon bound for Florida.

The second vessel the Bermuda Islander , arrived from Salem, New Jersey on Monday morning with 85 containers of which nine were refrigerated. There was no bulk cargo on board. She sailed back to New Jersey on Tuesday.

Container Ship Management reported the Oleander arrived on Sunday afternoon with 170 containers with two 30 foot flat racks and 37 20-foot refrigerated containers as well as three mafis. There were no bulk items. She left on Tuesday morning bound for New Jersey.
