New York pollster to speak at the UBP's party conference
The United Bermuda Party's New York pollster is to be among the speakers at a daylong party conference at the Southampton Princess today.
Dr. Doug Schoen of Penn & Schoen is to address the conference on where Bermuda fits in with a "cry for change'' in western democracies.
Entitled "The Blueprint and Beyond'', today's conference is the first such policy conference in five years. The "blueprint'' is the name of the manifesto the UBP unveiled during the campaign leading up to the October, 1993 general election.
Also at the conference, Centre on Philanthropy executive director Ms Nancy Smythe will talk about productivity in a volunteer organisation. And Mr. Adolf Luttke, chairman of the international companies division of the Chamber of Commerce, will speak on economic opportunity from the perspective of international business.
"A series of Bermudian speakers will discuss programmes that assist youth in making the difficult decisions that face them,'' conference chairman Mrs.
Kathryn Gibbons said in a news release. "Mr. Ralph Richardson, Dr. Dave Cardell, Mr. Ken Spurling, and Mr. Cornell Fubler will address what it takes to grow up successfully in Bermuda today and how Government, the private sector and service organisations can -- and must -- help.'' Four sessions will focus on Government initiatives during the next Parliamentary session, including ones dealing with crime, drugs, race relations, party organisational development, youth, and economic development.
The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include a buffet lunch.
