Late penalty rocks Rangers
After producing what they thought was a point-saving equaliser in the 85th minute, Rangers crashed to defeat two minutes later when Del Tyrell sunk them from the penalty spot at Southampton Oval.
However, it was during the first half that Rangers wasted their best chances to stamp their authority as they failed to turn opportunities into goals.
St. David's, already relegated but playing with plenty of determination, went closest when Otis Minors sidefooted against the crossbar following a pass from Keith Jennings. Alfred (Buster) Wolffe wasted a couple of chances at the other end for Rangers before Rohaan Simons put a header over the top from a cross and then had a shot from point blank range saved by Kuhn Evans.
Evans, steady throughout, made another outstanding save early in the second half when he tipped a shot from substitute Kwame Tucker over the bar.
St. David's, who stepped up their game in the second half, surprised the home team by taking the lead in the 67th minute when Tafari Outerbridge crossed from the right and substitute Lionel Cann scored with a first time shot from inside the box.
From the kick-off Dillas forced another save from Evans as Rangers went quickly in search of the equaliser. After Dillas went close again from a free kick and then Eugene Pitt drove over the bar, relentless Rangers pressure finally paid off in the 85th minute when the equaliser came.
Tucker touched the ball to Ascento Russell on the right side of the box and the striker drove home his 10th goal of the season.
That goal had the Rangers fans behind the other goal jumping but they were quickly silenced when Tyrell scored from the penalty spot after sub Neville Grant was blown down for handball.
