Cellular One violating terms of licence: Scott

Bermuda Digital Communications Ltd. (Cellular One) have violated the terms of their telecommunications licence by advertising itself as an Internet Service Provider (ISP), Government revealed last night.

Telecommunications Minister Michael Scott (pictured) said that under the company?s class of licence currently only permits them to provide Internet access, such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) to a licensed ISP provider. The Ministry has received several written complaints from local telecommunications carriers after Cellular One advertised an offering of an Internet service in on April 8. A letter has reportedly been sent to the company asking them to discontinue the service.

?It is regrettable that some confusion may have influenced the premature roll-out of the service,? Mr. Scott said. ?But I anticipate that the matter will be amicably resolved and that the company will voluntarily comply with the terms and conditions of their telecommunications licence.?
