forged several stolen cheques and received more than $4,000 by false pretences, pending the outcome of his legal aid application.

Kenneth Eugene Burns, of South Road, admitted the offences which occurred between July, August and November 1994.

Insp. Peter Duffy said Burns stole five Bank of Butterfield cheques from Wayne Lee between July and August 1994, and obtained $3,954 after he forged, and uttered three of them at the Bank of Butterfield on separate occasions.

The first time he received $954.25, the second time $1,500 and on the third $1,500.

Burns also stole two cheques from Karen Woolridge sometime in November last year and on two occasions obtained $900 and $222.

Insp. Duffy said that although Burns had changed his previous not guilty plea because he wanted to speed up the matter, sentencing should be delayed.

He said there were other matters that would come out during the prosecutions' pre-sentence submissions and Burns would be better served if he had legal advice.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Burns in custody, but his case will be mentioned again on February 16.
