Man charged with murder
murder of popular footballer Dean Young.
Randy Hilton Burgess, 34, of Cashew City Road, St. David's, appeared before Senior Magistrate Will Francis during a six-minute appearance.
The hearing took place just after 9 a.m. and Police locked the court doors to prevent members of the public from attending.
Outside, a small crowd of people, believed to be friends and relatives of Mr.
Young, of Princess Estate Road, Pembroke, had gathered.
One man said: "I just want to see his face.'' Burgess' lawyer, Mark Pettingill, said bail could only be applied for in exceptional circumstances in murder cases and stated that no application would be made.
Burgess -- who was wearing a green Adidas tracksuit, white t-shirt and white training shoes -- did not speak during the hearing.
No plea is entered at this stage, but Mr. Pettingall said the case would be "fully defended''.
Mr. Francis said Burgess was charged with the murder of Mr. Young in Pembroke on October 9. He remanded Burgess in custody for two weeks for mention on October 26.
Lawyer Brian Calhoun appeared for the Crown.
