Superb Rabain leads the way with stellar showing

Impressive showing: Rabain

Kirista Rabain stole the show at the Remembrance Day harness racing at Bermuda Equestrian Centre.

The female driver, one of the youngest drivers in local harness racing, posted four wins — the most of any driver on the day — and also managed to get a leg out of the 1:10/4-1:12/4 time bar with Simsfield Hard Times after returning a 1:10/3 in heat eight. Also getting a leg out of their division was Andy Stoneham after posting a 1:08 flat in the 1:08/3-1:10/3 time bar with Custard The Dragon in heat four.

Stoneham was the only other driver managing multiple victories on the day after claiming victory in both heats in his respective division.

Cameron Harris posted the day’s fastest time of 1:04/4 with gelding Brona’s Mike in the free for all.

Harris’s time was four fifths of a second slower than the season’s fastest time of 1:04 flat, a distinction he shares with female driver Andrea Westerfield.

Tuesday’s racing was the first at the Centre since hurricane Gonzalo caused extensive damage at the Devonshire venue.

Last month’s hurricane completely destroyed the judge’s box and all the equipment it housed and also damaged floodlights, fencing, stands and horse tie-ups. Race days postponed because of the devastation caused by hurricane Gonzalo will not be rescheduled.

“We can only race on the day races left on the schedule,” Arnold Manders, the Bermuda Driving Horse and Pony Club president, said.
