Bermuda make fine rosebowl start
tournament last night with a convincing 3-1 triumph over Cayman Islands at the Devonshire Courts.
Wins in the Women's, Men's B and Veteran's categories offset a win by the visitors in the Men's A division and catapulted Bermuda to victory.
Featuring prominently among the list of matches was contest pitting local professional Julian Rose against John MacRury, a former pro in Bermuda, but now of the Caymans.
The duo combined to entertain the crowd with a dynamite display of attacking squash, with both showing the willingness to volley at any time.
Rose stunned MacRury with a comfortable 9-4 win in the first game, but the latter would show his true calibre during the next three.

The final three matches went in favour of MacRury, who is unbeaten in the past six years in the Caribbean, 9-5, 9-6, 9-5.
Meanwhile, two of Rose's A team-mates, Tommy Sherratt and Colin Alexander, suffered similar fates at the hands of foreign opposition.
Sherratt, playing in his first senior international event, lost to Jeff Broderick in straight games, while Alexander and Russ Mucklow thrilled with a tension-filled five-gamer.
On the women's side, Bermuda eased to a 4-1 win led by number one Jacqui White who was impressive against Gillian Lawrence.

Other winners for the Island were Denise Kyme, Liz Davies and Diane Olchowik, while Janice Burns narrowly lost in five games to Ann Wilson.
The Men's B and Veteran's were both easy 5-0 victors and the overall win gave Bermuda confidence heading into todays matches where Bahamas stand as the opposition.
Bahamas downed defending champions Jamaica 3-1 earlier yesterday.
