Island to show big fight

World heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis is set to put his coveted title on the line next Saturday against 'Iron' Mike Tyson and local fight fans will get the opportunity to witness the two heavyweights square off on screen at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel.

Treble Clef Productions are providing exclusive live coverage of the bout from Tennessee on the big screen in the Southampton hotel's amphitheatre.

"We have a 16x14 foot video screen and we are looking to cater to anywhere between 700 to 800 people," said Treble Clef promoter David Frost.

"Undoubtedly we anticipate this to be one of the biggest fights in the world."

Frost is no stranger to staging big fights as in the past he has promoted Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran and Larry Holmes bouts via the big screen.

"People have been calling about tickets and some have said 'well I will just watch it on TV', but the contract that we had drawn up with our attorney stipulates that the fight will be closed circuit and that it also won't be available to home viewers. It's not pay per view and we have exclusive rights to the fight," said Frost.

Tickets for the screening go on sale on Monday and can be bought for $55 at both Music Box stores in Hamilton and St.George's and from the Somerset Country Squire.

"We anticipate a good turnout and with help from the Southampton Princess we are able to charge $55 for the tickets. If we had had to stage the event at a smaller venue the tickets would have been at least $70."

Refreshments and beverages will be provided and there will also be a pre-fight special show that begins at 8.30 p.m.

"Nowhere in the US that is showing the closed circuit fight can you go and get a ticket. It's completely sold out," claimed Frost.
