Tucker, Leverock in charge as Somerset name trial line-ups

Somerset Cricket Club yesterday announced their 22 players for today?s final Cup Match trial in the West End.

The challengers? bid to wrest the coveted cup from champions St.George?s this year suffered two setbacks earlier this week when teenage off spinner Rodney Trott switched allegiance and returned to the East End and specialist wicketkeeper Kwame Tucker ruled himself out through injury.

Somerset skipper Janeiro Tucker will lead the President?s XI while Dwayne Leverock has been appointed captain of the Vice-President?s XI for today?s match.

The full teams are as follows:

? Janeiro Tucker (captain), Hassan Durham, Stephen Outerbridge, Dion Stovell, Stephen Bremar jr (wicketkeeper), Jacobi Robinson, Dean Stephens, Azeem Pitcher, Reid Jones, Jordan DeSilva.

? Dwayne Leverock (captain), Dwight Basden, Treadwell Gibbons Jr, Curtis Jackson, Jekon Edness (wicketkeeper), Malachi Jones, Kevin Hurdle, Dennis Musson jr, Shane Hollis, Daniel Morgan, Derek Brangman.

Reserves: Greg Maybury, Michael Hudson, Joshua Gilbert and Shaquille Bean.

All players have been asked to be present at the ground by 8.30 a.m. for a warm-up session, and have also been reminded to bring along white cricket gear for the match.

Meanwhile, Somerset coach and team selector Winston Reid said he didn?t think there would be significant changes made to the challengers? squad this year.

?I don?t anticipate a lot of changes or a long night either,? he told .

As for the loss of both Tucker and Trott, Reid stated: ?When you lose a quality batsman/wicketkeeper such as Kwame you always lose a good player. And it is very unfortunate. But we have to go on with the game because Cup Match has to be played.

?And as far as Rodney is concerned there is absolutely nothing we can do about that because he chose to go back to St.George?s. However, we can?t say that he will be missed because he has never played for us before.?

Somerset and St.George?s will be holding their final matches in the West and East End today, beginning at 10 a.m.

In tomorrow?s Premier Division, league leaders Southampton Rangers can take another step towards the successful defence of their crown when they travel to St.John?s Field to take on old rivals Western Stars.

At Southampton Oval second placed Social Club can make amends for last weekend?s defeat to St.David?s with victory over cellar dwellers Warwick.

Elsewhere, red-hot St.David?s host Somerset at Lords and Eastern Counties rivals Bailey?s Bay take on Flatts at Sea Breeze Oval.

Meanwhile, in the First Division, front-runners St.George?s and Cleveland County can clinch promotion to the top tier next season with victories tomorrow.

St.George?s are away to minnows Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field while Cleveland are favoured over Police at Wellington Oval.

Other matches see Devonshire taking on Leg Trappers at the Den and Western Counties rivals Willows Cuts and PHC locking horns at Somerset Cricket Club.
