Trott destroys Devonshire
Bailey's Bay 238
Devonshire 61
Bailey's Bay seamer Clarkie Trott single-handedly destroyed fellow promotion hopefuls Devonshire Recreation Club at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday.
Trott helped himself to six wickets for 23 runs as Bay routed the visitors by 177 runs to move onto the verge of the First Division league championship.
Assisting the veteran bowler, who earned a recall to St.George's' Cup Match XI on Saturday, were Corey Hill who grabbed three wickets for 21 runs and young spinner Rodney (Picnic) Trott who took one for six off only four balls.
Skipper Winston (Herb) Trott top scored for Devonshire with 18 runs while there were 12 extras. No other batsman managed double figures.
Earlier, Bay feasted on the Devonshire attack, though none of their batsmen were able to go onto a big score.
Jermaine (Sox) Warner and Dennis Trott both scored 19 runs while Cal (Patches) Dill led the way with 38 followed by Hill (29), Trott (27) and skipper Dennis Pilgrim who remained unbeaten on 21.
Five Devonshire bowlers grabbed two wickets apiece.
IFP LegTrappers 9-0
Somerset Bridge
(match abandoned due to rain)
LegTrappers and Somerset Bridge had their match at Police Field yesterday come to a screeching halt when heavy mid-day rains made further play impossible.
LegTrappers were nine without loss after two overs when torrential showers forced players and team officials to run for cover. Ground staff managed to cover the playing surface, but about an inch of water still seeped through when they were removed. Umpires were left with no option but to abandon the match.
