Hot-shot Smith wins gold

Shooter Maurisa Smith won gold for Bermuda in the 50 metre Prone Smallbore Rifle division at Warwick Camp.Smith amassed 556 points while Eva Widing of Gotland claimed silver with 552 points.Bermuda’s other shooter in the competition, Dwaynette Smith (550), was two points off the silver medal but didn’t get a bronze as there were only four competitor in the event.Bermuda’s other women shooters, Sharon Johnson and Kamiliah Smith, finished sixth and seventh in the 25 metres Sport Pisto event.Jersey’s Nicola Holmes won the gold, Gotland’s Eva Widing the silver and Guernsey’s Nikki Trebert the bronze.Pontus Nordgren of Gotland won gold in the 50 metres Free Pistol, with a total of 518 points, while Jersey’s Michael Quenault (499) and Jorgen Olsen (494) rounded out the podium places.Nordgren (562) also won the 25 metre Rapid Fire section, holding off George Winstanley (549) and Michael Quenault (549) of Jersey.Gotland’s Bengt Hyytiainen (562) won gold in the 25 metre Centre Fire category, with Gibraltar’s Jonathon David Patron (556) and Louis Phillip Baglietto (548) claiming silver and bronze respectively.
