Georgette Prime-Godwin never dreamed of writing a book until the day she was suddenly struck by an idea. The Nehemiah Prototype is the result of that effort.

It pulls concepts from the Book of Nehemiah that ‘Rev G’ believes can help enhance leadership and performance skills, and includes blank pages where the reader can make notes of lessons learned along the way.

Q: What’s your background? Where’s this advice coming from?

A: I’m an ordained minister and a corporate trainer. I train people to be better employees and better leaders and work with them to help bring about a transformation so they see things a little differently.

Most of the time complacency is the reason why [there’s a problem].

I show how to motivate [staff] so they can consistently be the best they can be. I’m just so humbled at this journey and how it’s taken off.

Q: How does the Book of Nehemiah relate to that?

A: Whenever I’m looking for leadership skills I usually go to the Book of Nehemiah. It offers a practical approach to [the problems Nehemiah faced].

There was damage in his hometown and they had no resources to put it back together.

He went to his boss, the king, and asked for time off from work, passage through the forest and the necessary tools and then he organised the team and helped get the work done quicker. I lifted four leadership models from that.

Q: How did you get the book published?

A: [A Bermudian author] told me about Xlibris, a self-publisher that helps authors who don’t want to go the traditional route.

[Through Xlibris] I have a publicist, a marketing team, an editorial team; I’ve been advertised in Christianity Today and the New York Sunday Times.

Q: Any plans to write another book?

A: I’ve been inspired to write [a collection of] short stories, The Woman at the Well. It deals with women’s issues and how to break generational curses such as infidelity and having children out of wedlock.

Join Rev G for the Bermuda launch of her book at the BookMart at Brown & Co.
