A senior citizen was stabbed in the arm on Saturday while defending his taxi from a robber.

Police said the 67-year-old driver picked up his attacker near Tribe Road No. Three in Southampton at around 10 p.m. His attacker sat in the front passenger seat and asked to be taken to St. Anne?s Road.

However, when the taxi reached the junction of Church Road and Middle Road, the attacker brandished a knife and told the driver he was being robbed.

?The victim grabbed the man?s arm but was stabbed once in the left arm before the suspect got out of the taxi and ran east on Middle Road empty handed,? Police said. The driver?s injuries are not life-threatening.

The attacker is described as light skinned, six foot tall with medium build and a close haircut. He was wearing a green or yellow shirt and is believed to be in his late 30s or 40s.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
