Vouchers for recyclers
Ten households will win $100 grocery vouchers for recycling as part of a Department of Waste Management this week.The Ministry of Public Works announced yesterday that the 2011 Recycle Mania Week will take place this week, promoting recycling as part of a sustainable future for the Island.Residents putting out their recycling on Thursday and Friday are being invited to write their phone number on their bags, with ten randomly selected winners earning a voucher for Lindo’s Markets for their trouble.And students from schools across the Island will also compete to collect aluminium cans, with the winning class and school earning $500.On Saturday the Department will also hold its E-Waste Recycle day at the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility, where residents are encouraged to bring worn out electronic equipment, such as air conditioners, computers, cell phones and fax machines.A Ministry spokesman said that last year, the Waste Management section sent away 109 containers for recycling, including 26 containers of air conditioners, 24 containers of vehicle batteries and ten containers of e-waste.
