And some hours, later one of the men returned and picked up two of the packages. When he was about to retrieve the third one, Police arrested him.

Det. Sgt. Ken Savoury made these statements on the first day of the drugs trial of Morain, from Grenada, and Francois, of St. Lucia. Much of the afternoon was spent in legal arguments.

Both men have been charged with possessing and handling three pounds of cannabis -- worth around $64,000 -- with intent to supply.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on June 18, 1996.

Det. Sgt. Savoury said he was with other officers in the vicinity of the General Post Office around 12.46 p.m. when he saw the three men acting suspiciously with the three packages.

Once they had been seized, it was later discovered the plant material inside the packages was cannabis.

The case continues this morning before Puisne Judge Norma Wade. Renee Foggo is representing both men while Charlene Scott appears for the Crown.
