A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty to being in possession of cannabis on Monday in Magistrates' Court.

Jermaine Simmons, of Spring Benny Road, Sandys, was charged with possessing cannabis on May 9.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines told the court that Police officers caught Simons with the drugs at his home at 5.30 a.m. on that day.

Lawyer Larry Scott, who was representing the accused, said his client had pleaded guilty, but said he felt his client had been victimised by the Police.

Mr. Scott said the arrest was a direct result of his client not speaking to Police three or four months ago about another matter.

But Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said what and how the Police got their information was of no concern to him.

He said: "I am going to stay in my yard. I will not tell anyone else how to do their job.

"I am going to do my own job - nothing more and nothing less.

"Why doesn't your client talk to the Police to help keep this country safe?

"The only thing that concerns me is what your client had done to get him into this court."

Mr. Scott said he and his client had planned to speak to the officers.

Simmons was fined $1,000 or 90 days in prison.
