Drugs trial jury selected

A jury was selected in the Supreme Court trial of accused drug importers Kirk Thomas Roberts and Alphonso Cyril Holder yesterday.

Ten women and two men will decide the fate of the co-accused who deny charges of conspiracy to import cannabis as well as possession with intent to supply, possession of cannabis and possession of drug equipment between an unknown date and December 19, 2000.

Roberts, 40, a Sandys resident and well-known powerboat racer, is represented by defence lawyer Mark Pettingill while Patrick Doherty and Larry Mussenden are defending Holder, 37, a St. Vincent national.

Immediately after being empanelled yesterday, the jury was let go in order for Supreme Court Justice Norma Wade-Miller to hear legal arguments from the attorneys.

Director of Public Prosecutions Khamisi Tokunbo is prosecuting the case assisted by Shade Subair.

The trial is set to resume tomorrow morning.
