Control of Department of Tourism spending in overseas offices is working well, although there is a minor concern that there was not enough documentation for some transactions, Auditor General Larry Dennis has found.

Tourism offices in North America a Canada spend $7.8 million and Mr. Dennis found “no systemic weaknesses in the control systems used to process payments through the New York and Toronto bank accounts or in the procedures used to provide funds to those accounts from Bermuda”.

He found, however, on some occasions there was not enough documentation when selecting suppliers, and recommended Tourism staff comply with tendering and selection requirements.

The Department of Tourism responded that it accepts the recommendation.
